WINTER BLUES...

For many of us winter means freezing cold temperatures, shorter days and longer nights. The cold temps keep us inside and the shorter days keep us in darkness longer. So, are the winter blues real? I believe so. I think that people tend to be more down and withdrawn in the winter time. We seem to be happier when the sun shines and we have daylight for longer hours. When it's warm we want to be outdoors participating in fun activities. When we're confined to the inside, with less activity it leaves more room for sadness. Guess what? It doesn't have to be that way. Winter time can be a joyous time if we look at things differently. The cold temperatures clean the air. Falling snow is beautiful and one of the most peaceful moments that God has created. Ever notice how quiet it is when it snows? Shorter days can mean a chance to get to bed earlier and get more rest. We can spend more time with family around the dinner table. We can slow down and read or write; watch movies. Enjoy the season for what it brings. Don't allow winter to dampen your spirit. You can choose to be happy no matter what. So, change your lightbulbs to brighten up the place. Have a girls night with potluck. Cook a large family dinner. Buy some new cozy pajamas and go to bed earlier. Enjoy the winter. Consider it to be a time of peace and respite not a time of the blues.
