Patience in the process...


Anyone waiting for something, expecting something, tired of something, ready to give up...? Just hold on. Being patient can be difficult but once you learn this beautiful discipline, you will wonder why you didn't try it sooner. Believe it or not, there is peace to be found in the waiting period. It's when we don't exercise patience that anxiety and frustration come. We know that those two things are a recipe for unnecessary stress.

There are times when we wait for something that should take ten minutes, like waiting in line for that morning coffee. The anxious feeling comes over us because we are losing patience. The next time you're waiting in line or stuck in traffic consider thinking that you may be being held up to avoid something very negative. Instead of getting frustrated about something out of your control, be grateful and think peaceful thoughts.

Other times there's that thing in your life that you may have been waiting for, for years or most of your life. I will say, this is terribly difficult at times, but try your best to be patient. Waiting can be a long depressing journey or an exhilarating experience if we change our focus. While you wait, enjoy the journey as life unfolds and gives you new experiences and shows you its beauty. While you wait, enjoy everything else that life has to offer. Each day when you wake up choose another thing to be grateful for. Trust me, the waiting will be that much greater and you will develop a peaceful patience.

My personal mantra has become, "Take life slow and enjoy the journey." There's no rush to get to the finish line. You may miss something. There's beauty in seeing it as it progresses.

There is truly peace in patience. Love life each step of the way.
