Is fear part of your vocabulary? I'd like to say that the answer is probably yes. At some point in your life you have probably been scared, afraid and/or fearful of something. We've all been scared as children; scared of the dark, the "boogie man, ghosts... As we grew up we may have been afraid of the unknown, commitments, new experiences, life in general, etc. The thing with fear though, is if we don't move past it, it will grip us and stop us from doing anything; keep us from moving forward and that is unhealthy.
Honestly, as we grow older, fears tend to set in more whereas children we hadn't developed a major sense of fear yet. As children, if encouraged, we may have conquered our fears faster than we would as adults.
We all have natural fears, fear of dogs, fear of heights, fear of closed places, fear of spiders... These can be normal or abnormal. They become abnormal or a problem when we allow them to stop us from doing things. For example, if I'm afraid of dogs and I don't go outside to avoid them. In that sense the fear has taken over me.
Then there are those fears that keep us from progressing. I can have all of the capabilities and knowledge in the world but if I'm afraid to share it or live in it, I will never progress.
I honestly never realized how afraid of things I was... afraid of pushing myself, afraid of failure, afraid of new and unfamiliar experiences, etc. I read Steve Harvey's book "Jump" in 2016. I read it within a few days and I believe, paired with my active faith in God that, that book helped me to take leaps in my life. Chapter six of the book is entitled, "Stop Existing and Start Living". In hindsight I believe I may have just been existing. How many of you are simply just existing because of fear? I encourage you to start living by tackling one fear at a time.
If you've been afraid of doing something, take the leap of faith and just do it. Don't over think it or over analyze it. Just do it. "Jumping is a leap necessary to unlock the gift that God has granted you. If you're not willing to jump to get to the next level, you'll end up settling for an unfulfilling life." Steve Harvey..."Jump" You'll be stagnant and left behind.
If your fear is failure, be not dismayed, most, if not all of the prominent people that we see in the public eye, have all failed once, twice, ten, twenty times or more. Failure is a part of success. Don't let it stop you. Don't allow it to grip you. Instead allow your fear to push you ahead.
The Bible says, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and love, and of a sound mind." God himself does not want us to fear. His children have been given a spirit of POWER, LOVE AND A SOUND MIND. Reflect and meditate on that. You have POWER, LOVE AND A SOUND MIND, in Him.
Take the leap of faith, take the jump, recognize what God has given you. Do not allow your fear to stop you from living.
1, 2, 3, JUMP!
