IS IT WELL WITH YOUR SOUL? Spiritual Wellness...


Sometimes the soul is tampered with and your spirit doesn't feel well. Something may have dampened it. Be it unpleasant news, someone attacking your character, a family member is not well or just simply something you can't quite put your finger on. Our souls are at our deepest inner being. In it lies the core of who we are and how we respond. If our soul isn't well; if it is compromised, so is the rest of our well-being. A sickened soul can bring on a heavy heart, a confused mind and weariness to the body. An untimely or unexpected storm can weaken your soul.

What do you do to anchor your soul; to heal it; to comfort it; to revive it? This may be the hardest thing when it comes to our overall health. When our physical body isn't well, we seek medical attention and rest. When our mind is not in its best state, we may meditate, take a break, do some breathing exercises, refocus ourselves, seek counseling...But, when the inner most self; the spirit, the soul is aching, what do you do?

Here's what I do. I honestly, and simply, cry. I allow it to come out, even if it's for a lengthy period of time. Crying is cleansing. It's better to get it out than to keep it inside. In the midst of my tears, I pray. I consult with God because He is the healer of my soul. There are times when I feel that it's not working fast enough but there may be something that He wants me to hear and I have to be silent and ward off all of the distractions. I share with people that I trust. I have the brief "whoa is me" pity party with someone and allow them to feed into my spirit. I allow those that I trust to pray for me. For me, this can last for a few minutes or up to a full day. But...when the sunken soul feeling passes, even though the storm may not be over, I can truly say that it is well with my soul!

In the midst of it all, I look for my rainbow, both literally and figuratively. It is my sign that everything will be alright. It is what God purposefully shows me. I wait for it with full expectation and anticipation.

What do you do when your soul isn't well? Find something that brings peace to your inner being. Search your soul when it is sad. Open your mind and your heart so that the peace may enter your total being. Allow positive vibes to enter in and soothe your core. Create your own ritual for your soul so that when the waves and tides come, you are anchored and your soul can return to its rightful space and bring stability to your mind and body.
