Summer can be a time of relaxation and excitement; vacations, day trips and lots of food. I hope that as you're reading this, that you are enjoying some of the excitement and bliss of the season. I know that I have and will continue.
With all of the excitement, however, summer can be a time of altered schedules and patterns; different sleeping habits, little to no exercise, minimal meditation, change of time for worship, poor eating habits...The excitement can take us away from our healthy routines. You may begin to feel yourself feeling tired or sluggish and have no idea why because you're having so much fun. Check your eating habits and don't forget to drink plenty of water. In the midst of all of the fun, eating ice cream, desserts, burgers and dogs, don't forget to add fruits and vegetables. On the cruises, island vacations and day trips to the beach, don't forget to walk. Take a stroll after your meal. As you stay up to watch late movies with the kids and hang up past your bed time, make a point to get a power nap in. Lastly, don't forget your quiet time, meditation time, prayer time...
Summer can be a rejuvenating time, yet an exhausting time having you wondering if you took the vacation or not. We try to cram it all in because our work schedule may be lighter, the kids are home for the summer, etc. Don't allow the summer to suck the life out of you. Simply remember, you can't cram it all in and you can still add your healthy habits. Keep your mind body and spirit refreshed. Don't lose the excitement of summer by destroying your health.
Take those moments of respite. That's essentially what the summer is about. I'm personally taking a vacation from the vacation right now. I'm meditating and refocusing myself. I feel a bit disconnected with my spirit, so, I need to reflect and regroup; pray and sit still.
Another suggestion is to detox your physical body. Some may want to do an official detox or fast. Today, I'm beginning a bit of a detox. I'm eating lighter and healthier with plenty of water with lemon. I plan to do this for a full week, to get my body back on track.
We are near the end of a glorious summer. Continue to enjoy and don't forget to stay healthy.
