As much as we try not to, we may face health challenges; some simply annoying like allergies and some life altering and life threatening. For many of us health challenges my be inevitable. However, that does not mean that we can't take measures to preserve our health, such as eating right, exercising and keeping necessary appointments.
I came to this subject because I was chatting with a friend. I had requested a favor and she responded back indicating that things are not good with her health. I immediately shared that I was praying for her. After meditating on what she had said and going directly to God, this subject came to me and I told her that it would be my focus this week. It truly touched me. She is one of my biggest Surrounded by Wellness supporters.
I personally have too many health challenges to count. They are all maintained and I try most times to do the right thing in regard to eating healthier and exercising. I am guilty of falling off the wagon but I do get back on. Even though they are maintained, each time I go to the doctor and something may not be improving or something new has shown up, I do get discouraged for a brief period of time.
What do I do for a healthy mind and spirit when the health challenges seem to take over and consume me? First, I automatically begin praying. Second, I tell my mother. Third, I may tell a close friend or confidant. Then I go into major reflection. At times, I'm down for a bit but during that time I don't stop being grateful and I don't stop praying. I have to speak life into myself; encourage myself and talk to myself in order not to compromise my mind or my spirit to sink into a "whoa is me" state or even worse, a depressed state.
We do know that when one part of our being is out of sync or not feeling well that it throws the rest of our being out of balance. However, here is the cool part of the mind when it is functioning properly. The mind is very powerful. So, if it is functioning properly and your body is not it has the ability to make you feel better and in some cases change your physical circumstance. A positive outlook on what may seem the worst of physical circumstances, "may" speed up your physical healing process and if not will still make you feel better. If you do the opposite, think negatively and have a poor outlook, you "may" worsen your condition and result in being depressed or in simply, a "bad mood" all of the time; now, throwing your mind off kilter and compromising its health as well.
The same goes for the spirit. I find this to be the best for me. Staying in tune with my spiritual self, meditating on God and his word and worshipping Him in the storms of my physical health challenges have worked. When my spirit is good, I feel good regardless of the health challenge. It doesn't mean that the challenges are gone it just means that I've channeled them differently.
When your body is weak, sick or diseased try your best to keep your mind from negative thoughts and your spirit lifted.
I'm not saying that you will feel 100% or not get discouraged during health challenges. Believe me, I've not been in good spaces when it comes to my health but I have learned to be grateful and alter my thinking over time. It's not been easy but it is possible.
Earlier, I listed the steps that I take when faced with a health challenge and here's why. I go to God in prayer because of my belief in His power to heal, my belief in His power to comfort and my belief in Him never leaving me no matter what the outcome. I call my mother because she will do the "motherly" thing. She'll let me cry, fuss, scream and then encourage me and tell me to stay positive. She'll pray immediately and she'll try to take the pain on herself. I tell a friend that I trust, that I know will pray for me and that I know I can continue to talk about it with when the doubt creeps in or when I'm down.
Find what works for you; for your spirit and your mind, so that your body can heal.
