Becoming a Hermit

Is anyone feeling a little hermitty? That's not a word, I know, but you get what I mean. Does anyone feel that since we have been at home now more than usual that you have gotten use to it; that your motivation is a little less than? I definitely feel all of it.

Often winter time causes us to be a bit of a hermit. Depending on what climate you live in, the days are shorter, it's cold and let's not forget the snow. Many people suffer from the winter blues. With the pandemic added to winter we can become that much more of a hermit.

I love being outside but more recently, because I've gotten so use to being in the house, I don't want to go out and I've noticed that my motivation has decreased. I know that I can't be alone in this. I do however, anticipate warmer temperatures so that I can get back to taking my walks. I truly miss those.

If any of the hermit tendencies describes you right now, I think the key is to recognize it. As you notice it, think about forcing yourself to do something; exercise, stretching breaks, meditation, reading a new book, anything.

Since my work day is pretty routine and a bit monotonous, I make sure to stop and take a break, stretch, look out the window or grab a healthy snack. Following the same indoor routine can become a bit, well, "routine". If you are working alone and quietly, without meetings or conferences, turn on some music to help you get through the day.

Come out of your hermit shell. Be mindful of your patterns. Try not to get in a rut. That can lead to other problems. Keep yourself as active as possible and your mind stimulated while we are inside. Hold on, spring will be here soon.
